ACCESSIBILITY

The Weekender is inclusive for everyone, and we want all our guests to enjoy the festival. Here’s what’s available on-site to make your experience as accessible and comfortable as possible.

The event is wheelchair accessible, with two premium unreserved viewing areas located on the top tier specifically for patrons with accessibility needs, along with their carers or family. These offer some of the best seats in the house.

If you’d prefer to get closer to the action, you can follow the accessible path along the northern side of the site down to the bottom concrete level, putting you right at stage level.

Accessibility facilities include:

  • ✔ Dedicated accessible entry lane

  • ✔ Accessible toilets in both the GA and VIP areas

  • ✔ Accessible bar service lanes

  • ✔ Additional ramps throughout the VIP area to provide access across the split levels

Our team will also be on hand throughout the event to assist patrons with additional needs.

CHILL &

CHANGE SPACE

Need a breather from the crowd? Head to our Chill & Change space on the northern grass tiers. You'll still hear the music, just a bit softer and away from the hustle — plus comfy seating, soft lighting, and an accessible toilet. There's also a kid-friendly changing room with baby change tables, and a massage table on hand for larger children or adults who need it.

auslan INTERPRETERS

We want everyone to be able to enjoy Scarborough Beach Weekender. Auslan interpreters will be on stage from gates opening through to the end of the event, providing live interpretation throughout the program for Deaf and hard-of-hearing attendees.

If you have any questions about Auslan interpretation or other accessibility support at the event, please reach out to our team ahead of the event. We’re happy to help make your Weekender experience as accessible and enjoyable as possible.

CHANGING PLACES FACILITY

A dedicated Changing Places facility is located adjacent to the venue at Scarboro Surf Life Saving Club. Patrons and carers who require access to this facility will be permitted to leave the festival perimeter and re-enter once they have finished using the facility.

Patrons wishing to access the facility will be required to provide their own MLAK key to gain entry.

The Changing Places facility provides additional accessible amenities, including a ceiling hoist, adult-sized change table and accessible shower. These facilities are designed to support people with complex accessibility and personal care requirements who may not be able to use standard accessible amenities.

The facility provides an alternative option where the event’s onsite Chill & Change Space does not meet an individual’s specific accessibility or personal care requirements.

OTHEr CONSIDERATIONS

1. Noise Sensitivity
The event is a live music festival and will naturally involve high levels of amplified sound. Patrons with noise sensitivities are encouraged to bring appropriate hearing protection. For those who don’t have their own, hearing protection will also be available to purchase at the merchandise tent.

2. Quiet / Low-Stimulation Space

The Chill & Change space will provide a designated lower-stimulation area where patrons can take a break from the crowds and activity of the festival environment. Noise levels within the tent will be lower than the main festival area, however it will not be a completely silent space.

3. Strobe Lighting & Special Effects
Strobe lighting, flashing lights, visual effects and other special effects may be used throughout performances. Patrons who are sensitive to flashing or rapidly changing lights should take this into consideration when attending.

4. De-escalation & Support
Event staff will be briefed on inclusion, accessibility and appropriate ways to support patrons who may become overwhelmed or require additional assistance. Where appropriate, staff will use calm, respectful and non-confrontational communication and work with the patron and their support person to find a suitable solution.

5. Communication & Information
We will provide clear pre-event information around accessibility, facilities, sensory considerations and event policies so patrons and carers can plan their experience in advance and understand what support is available.

6. Assistance Dogs & Support Persons
Assistance animals and support persons will be welcomed in accordance with applicable requirements, with staff briefed to ensure patrons are not unnecessarily challenged or prevented from accessing the event with their required support.

7. Carer & Support Person Access

We will ensure our ticketing and entry processes consider the needs of patrons who require a carer or support person. Companion Cards will be honoured at the festival. Patrons who hold a valid Companion Card should contact Oztix prior to the event to arrange for their complimentary Companion ticket to be issued. 8. Prescription Medication
If you need to bring prescription medication to SBW, please ensure it is in its original packaging with the dispensing label matching the ticket holder’s ID. Please enter via the accessible entry lane and have medication ready for inspection.

If your medication requires refrigeration, our event team can assist with storage once you are inside the festival.
